My ability to proofread increases by 1000% after I hit “Submit”.
this is often because when you’ve submitted something (like fanfiction to ao3) it will be in a different font, size and framing than in your word processor. The text will look different in the new environment so your brain stops skipping what looks familiar (like a typo that has been there since the beginning).
So, tip: revise your work in a different font and size. I guarantee you’ll catch more typos and mistakes than otherwise.

There’s a fantastic fic writer who’s quite prolific in this area. Sixty stories already! I don’t know if they’re doing any more. Their username is ‘Arthur_Conan_Doyle’ but you have to google their stuff. They don’t put it on ff.net or AO3 or anything like that. Real awesome period piece type stuff too. They get all the little details right. It’s amazing.

The AO3 Tag of the Day is: Is it even biologically possible to catch STD’s from an alien?
Yes it is! Catching a viral or bacterial STD from an alien would require the alien to be frighteningly close to human biology, so we can largely [but technically not completely] disregard that possibility. But alien pubic lice, and other exo-parasitic STDs? As long as they can eat dead human skin cells and process our proteins, that infection is 100% possible. As well, an alien could have a tapeworm style parasitic STDthat lives in the reproductive tract eating mucus, and we could get that. Not to mention the possibility of a parasite’s eggs passing along in genital fluids, then hatching in the warm human body, and then wriggling on to feed who knows where. As long as an alien parasitic STD can process human flesh or excretions, you’d better use protection.
